Juice Fast: Day 10

A cold, wet, miserable day in NYC... but I still feel good.

Today I followed the Juice Press Basic Cleanse.  I nice variety of juices: Complete Source, The Meal, OMG My Favorite Juice, Spicy Citrus, Tomato Gazpacho and Gravity. It provides approximately 1060 calories, which is a little on the low side for my Wednesdays. So I added an additional smoothie (Spinach, Ginger, Banana, Hemp Seed). Wednesdays are very long days -- I open AND close Five Points, teach students all day and class all night.

Training today was great, still feeling strong.

Strength Training:
StrongFirst mobility drills
Kettlebell Complex: Snatch, Windmill, Swing x 50 left/ 50 right with a 20 kg (44 lb) kettlebell. It takes just about 20 minutes and I do it without setting the bell down or taking a break. I've been at the 20 kg for 3 sessions now and it's feeling like mine. Next week I'll move up a bell size.
Ab Wheel, 2 x 10

Skill Training:
Bag work intervals, a different bag each full round. I mix this up; today is was 30 seconds hard as I can go, followed by 30 seconds of shadow boxing. I concentrate on a different technique each set of 6 intervals -- which is equal to one round. I perform it with no rest, so at the end I've worked for 36 minutes, or 12 rounds.

I realized I've said nothing about music in the blog yet. Music is very important in Muay Thai; traditional Thai fight music plays throughout the bout, increasing in tempo as the fight progresses. It helps amp the fighters' pace up. It's also a great training aid, in my opinion. I have varied and eclectic taste in terms of genre, but it all tends to be a little on the abrasive side.  So I might play metal, hardcore, industrial, hip hop...but generally it's going to encourage intensity and drive. Today was classic metal: Testament, Judas Priest, Metallica from the "Kill Them All" era, Iron Maiden. It's another reason I like training very early in the morning, before many people have arrived at Five Points. I can turn up the volume, do work, and no one is bothered or bothers me:)
