Ah, yes. 8 days to go. I find that I'm looking ahead to the end of my fast with mixed feelings. On the one hand, it will be very cool to chew food again! On the other, I have felt exceptionally good throughout. I'm already researching and planning to ensure that continues even when the fast is over.
Stepped away from the pre-set Juice Press cleanses today and mixed up the selections:
Good Weed, South of the Border, Complete Meal, Fountain of Youth, Doctor Green Juice, Gravity
Another day of increases on my strength training today. And these are Easy Strength-style strength sessions, so these increases keep me in the 70-80% effort range; they are not anywhere near 1RM.
Training:
Strength Training:
Strong First Mobility Warm Up
Kettlebell Swings: 10 x 5 left/5 right with 28 kg bell
Deadlift: 2 x 5 with 235 lb barbell
Kettlebell Bench Press: 2 x 5 with a pair of 24 kg bells
Ab Work: Hanging Leg Raise, 1 x10; Winshield Wipers, 1 x 10; Front Lever, 1 x5 with 3 sec hold
Cool down: easy run with Forest on the treadmill for 15 minutes
Skill Training:
Shadow box: 3 rounds
Bag work: 30 minutes, freestyle
And as promised, more about another one of my students today:
Passa Chattra has been training with me for almost 8 years. She is, quite frankly, a trainer's dream. She works extremely hard, listens, does her homework, and never complains. She's also smart and talented, a product designer by trade (creativity must run in the family; her husband, Ed Kilduff, is a principal and co-founder of Pollen Design, an award-winning product design company that specializes in creating innovative and aspirational product designs). And she's a great mom (her daughter trains here, too, in our FitTykes program) and an already awesome person.
Passa both trains muay thai and strength trains with me. She went from no martial arts experience to fighting; she still spars regularly. After we'd been training for several years, she and Ed decided to have a child. Passa continued to train throughout her pregnancy. In fact, our last session was 4 days before the birth of their daughter, Ryo. And she bounced right back to it: 2 months after giving birth we (Passa, her friends Emily, Marian and I) ran the Brooklyn Half-Marathon. Check out pictures from three years ago just days prior to giving birth, and then from this morning, three years later:
