Did I mention it's cold in NYC?
I'm always cold in the winter. I'm pretty lean anyway and more so on this fast, so I'm really feeling the chill. On the plus side, I seem to be having less problem with poor circulation in my fingers. Usually in the winter there are several times a day when multiple fingers look like they are made of wax, as I've got no blood running to them. The last week or so the incidence and severity of this has been markedly less. DOn't know if it's the juice or not; I just know it's a nice change.

Zercher Squats 2 x 5, 115 lbs
Double Kettlebell Rows, 2 x 5 (dbl 28 kn/ lb kettlebells)
Handstand Leg Raises for Ab Work
Skill Training:
StrongFirst Mobility WarmUp
Partner Drill, 1 round of 4 minutes
Sparring, 6 rounds of 4 minutes with 30 second rest between rounds
Music:
Too many people in early this morning for me to take over the gym sound system, but training later on my own with my iPod it was German industrial music: The Extize podcast from DJ Barus.
I usually enjoy Friday afternoons and evenings because -- unless there's a show with our fighters on it -- I'm home early enough to enjoy some time with my son. He's growing up fast and pretty soon he probably won't have the time to spend with me. But today I was just a taxi; he's in the school chorus and they have a rehearsal in Brooklyn tonight for a show tomorrow. So I spent way more time that I'm used to, in a car, in rush hour running him from place to place.
Absolutely. .The circulation thing related to fasting. . Not the juice. Juice is life support. Raw vegan diet is ideal in tropical weather however raw vegan is superior nutritional paradigm. .As you know. You just have to wear more layers. Or move to miami. Doing a fast in the Winter is powerful. I'm told by Fred that cold weather contracts the body cellular ly which push toxins out of the cell and tissue faster.
ReplyDeleteI'm probably not explaining like a scientist..
thanks for the info. and I'll check out the paavo airola stuff, too.
ReplyDeleteHi Steve,
ReplyDeleteI appreciate your blog posts. As someone I trust, it's interesting to hear about how the juices affect (or don't affect) your lifestyle. When you mentioned the part about having improved circulation, that's what really got my attention, as I also suffer from white, numb fingertips when it's cold. Anyway, there are two things that I would be concerned, or interested to learn more about regarding the 30-day fast:
1. Vitamin B-12. Since it's only available through animal sources, are you supplementing with any vitamins, or are the juices the only things you're ingesting?
2. After the 30 days, how does the body "react" once you transition back to eating? Will you continue to post for a period of time after finishing the fast? I'd be curious to hear about the post-fast experience as well.
If you get the chance, I'd be interested in your thoughts. And/or maybe my questions might be addressed by Marcus(?)
Thanks.

Hi RIma!
ReplyDeleteNice you're keeping an eyre on me from Maryland. I've continued to notice an improvement in the circulation issue. Marcus informed me that it's the fast that does it; I'm just pleased I've had some relief. AS you low, it's a right pain.
As far as B12: you know I've been vegan for decades, so B12 augmentation is a normal part of my diet. Usually as a supplement, sometimes as fortified food. During the fast it's obviously just as a supplement.
As far as coming off the fast: I plan to treat it as if I were coming off a weight cut/dry out for a fight. A little at a time, nothing too crazy. There are some good general guidelines at www.juicepress.com/cleanse-exit. I'll write about my experience with the end of the fast on the blog, too, so I'll have some better answers for you in a couple of weeks.
Thanks for getting back to me! I assumed that B12 was a part of your normal (non-fast) diet, just didn't know whether or not you'd continue to incorporate it.
ReplyDeleteI have to admit, that it's all very impressive- what you are able to accomplish, and the sense of normalcy you can maintain while being on the fast. I especially liked your Saturday, "day 13" post.
Good stuff :-)
